A real use case within the Chief Data Office, we require all columns that are loaded into our Cognitive Enterprise Data Platform to have column descriptions. WKC does not have the ability to add column descriptions. We track the progress of linking metadata both (business such as business terms and technical such as column descriptions) to data content in the data lake. This is a pre-requisite for our Automated Metadata Generation (AMG) CDO service to run and assist Subject Matter Experts with linking metadata. Additional technical metadata for a column such as column length is also required. We are currently using the Information Governance Catalog (IGC) in which this is already available.
In addition, we would like the ability to add custom attributes to assets which are critical and specific to our business processes. One example of this is in order for us to manage business terms properly through a controlled workflow we capture details such as who is the Metadata SME that will provide metadata definitions for each asset, who is the data steward as part of the IBM business data stewarship program that manages the workflow, etc.
Why is it useful?
|Who would benefit from this IDEA?||As the Data Governance Product Owner within the Chief Data Office, I would like to migrate from IGC to WKC and manage all my business and technical metadata within our Cognitive Enterprise Data Platform and execute our CDO DG services using WKC so that I can provide the necessary functionalities for our data producers and data consumers.|
How should it work?
